Happy World Cup day!! It’s here! And South Africa feels it!
Thanda just finished its final and very appropriate pre-World Cup activity: a soccer tournament!
This three-day event started on Wednesday with a tournament for Thanda’s students. In typical African fashion, everything got delayed by a few hours. But the kids had a great time and the players were excited to show off their hard-earned soccer skills!
Thursday was the big day, with six games taking place throughout the day. As community members excitedly anticipated the World Cup, they came out in droves to support their local teams.
Thanda’s staff members conducted activities for spectators on the sidelines to keep everyone entertained. Kids entered coloring competitions and participated in trivia games while teenagers and adults competed in soccer skill competitions and other activities.
Thanda recently received a very large donation of soccer balls, so many community members walked away with soccer balls as prizes for winning their respective competitions.
The final game was played just hours ago in Umtwalume. The community’s two best teams (for the time being, at least) faced off in the chilly early-morning wind, and the team called Styles prevailed!
Congratulations to the Thanda tournament winners!
Now, onto the World Cup! Go Bafana Bafana!
